Murray Long  is a 3rd generation farmer from the Riverina region, NSW. Growing up on and  managing the family property he has experienced most of the difficulties both within and outside the control   of those operating rural businesses. He currently runs the property as a mixed farming enterprise and has been successful in maintaining it as a viable business through the extremes of both climatic and financial  times.

Prior to returning to the family farm, Murray worked with CSIRO for 15 years conducting research within the Division of Plant Industry on adaptation of crops to drought and nutritional stresses. Working with some of the most renowned scientists in their field, valuable knowledge was gained across a wide range of fields resulting in the co-authoring of some peir reviewed papers in scientific journals.

Since returning to the farm, Murray continued to manage and work with CSIRO  on cereal trials conducted on the property.

In 1996, Murray founded and developed PENDARRA White Suffolk Stud. From a modest beginning, PENDARRA quickly became one of the leading performance terminal studs in the industry supplying over 350 rams annually to all eastern states. A genetic marketing business, "Performance plus Genetics", was developed alongside the stud brand and has been responsible for the distribution of many of the leading genetics within the industry to all Australian states.

Twice nominated as a finalist for the Weekly Times "Sheep Producer of the Year", Murray, through good understanding of genetics, has produced many leading sires that have had a major impact on the prime lamb industry. Feed efficiency trials across a wide range of sire lines produced results that had a big impact across subsequent selection strategies and the industry.

Pendarra White Suffolk Stud has used the Sheep Genetics "LAMBPLAN" performance evaluation technology since it's foundation and Murray is well qualified in all aspects of data entry, data management and evaluation.

Murray is qualified Service Provider for Sheep Genetics Australia for both Lambplan and MerinoSelect and has been a member of the Sheep Advisory Committee since 2009.

Trained in the use of MateSel to develop breeding programs that  maximise genetic gain

Pendarra White Suffolk stud has been a major contributor to the Sheep CRC research program with supply of both genetics and in-kind support. The large variety of historical genetics stored through Performance plus Genetics was invaluable in the early DNA testing and we have continued to supply genetics for evaluation in the reference flock.

Murray represented the sheep industry as part of an interview team to secure an extension to CRC funding and is a participant delegate on the Sheep CRC Committee.

Qualified as a Genomics Service provider, Ram Select and Bred Well Fed Well deliverer and the "Using EID in Sheep Breeding & Management" course.
